Introduction

Beef cattle are one of the most significant contributors to the meat industry, providing essential animal protein for human consumption. In Deli Serdang Regency, beef cattle play a vital role in meeting the food needs of the community. This study aims to analyze the effect of each agribusiness subsystem on the income of beef cattle breeders in the area. The research was conducted in three sub-districts in Deli Serdang, namely the expanse of silver, Sinembah Tanjung Muda Hilir, and Kutalimbaru, with a simple random sample selection method. A total of 75 breeders were involved in this study.

The data collected was then analyzed using the scoring and path analysis method. The results of the path analysis show that the livestock farming subsystem has the greatest influence on the income of beef cattle breeders, with a coefficient value of 0.466. The direct effect of the livestock farming business subsystem on farmers' income is greater than all agribusiness subsystems under study. If farmers want to increase the income of beef cattle, then they need to increase aspects in the livestock farming business subsystem.

Methodology

This study employed a simple random sample selection method to select 75 breeders from three sub-districts in Deli Serdang Regency. The data collected was then analyzed using the scoring and path analysis method. The path analysis was used to examine the relationships between the agribusiness subsystems and the income of beef cattle breeders.

Results

The results of the path analysis show that the livestock farming subsystem has the greatest influence on the income of beef cattle breeders, with a coefficient value of 0.466. The direct effect of the livestock farming business subsystem on farmers' income is greater than all agribusiness subsystems under study. If farmers want to increase the income of beef cattle, then they need to increase aspects in the livestock farming business subsystem.

Furthermore, the analysis also shows that the effect of agribusiness subsystems on the income of beef cattle farmers through marketing subsystems does not indicate a significant effect. Conversely, the influence of agribusiness subsystems on farmers' income through supporting subsystems shows a significant influence, with the value in the livestock farming subsystem of 0.821.

In multiple linear regression analysis, the results obtained that partially, the amount of livestock ownership, feeder prices, feed costs, drug and vaccine costs, artificial insemination costs, and labor costs have a significant positive effect on farmers' income. Simultaneously, all independent variables studied show positive and significant effects on the dependent variable, namely the income of beef cattle breeders.

Conclusion and Implications

From the results of this analysis, it can be concluded that to increase the income of beef cattle breeders in Deli Serdang Regency, the main focus must be directed at the development of livestock farming business subsystems. This includes improving maintenance management, improving the quality of feed, and improving farmers' skills in carrying out artificial insemination and animal health care.

Strengthening in supporting subsystems, such as access to market information and technical assistance, also need to be considered to strengthen the position of farmers in the market. Thus, the synergy between the development of livestock farming and supporting subsystems will have a positive impact on increasing farmers' income, so as to meet the needs of animal protein in the Deli Serdang better.

Through the right understanding and actions in each subsystem, it is expected that beef cattle agribusiness in Deli Serdang Regency can develop more optimally, providing benefits for farmers and the community in general.
