Introduction

Water availability is a vital factor in the survival of plants, and manure, especially chicken manure, is known as an organic fertilizer that is effective in maintaining nutrients and soil humidity. Avocado (Persea Americana), with its extensive benefits both economically and ecologically, is increasingly in demand as a multipurpose plant. To maximize avocado growth, this study aims to determine the dose of chicken manure and optimal watering intervals.

Background

Avocado is a popular fruit that is widely cultivated in many parts of the world. It is a good source of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. Avocado cultivation is a significant contributor to the economy of many countries, and it is also an important source of income for many farmers. However, avocado cultivation requires careful management, including the use of fertilizers and irrigation systems.

Methodology

This study took place in the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra for four months, from February to June 2021. The parameters measured include high increase, stem diameter, number of leaves, wet wet wet weight and roots, as well as dry weight of the canopy and roots. This study uses factorial complete random design (RAL) with two main factors: Giving chicken manure (five treatment levels) and watering intervals (four treatment levels), producing 20 combinations of treatment with three replications.

Results

The results of this study showed that the provision of chicken manure and watering intervals had a significant effect on high increases, number of leaves, wet wet weight, root wet weight, and root dry weight. However, the effect on the increase in the diameter of the stem and the dry weight of the canopy is not significant. The results of this study indicate that the best treatment was achieved in a combination of P2A1: Giving 1 kg of chicken manure and watering intervals once a day. This combination shows optimal growth in avocado seeds.

Discussion

The results of this study suggest that chicken manure plays an important role in increasing avocado growth. The use of chicken manure as a fertilizer can improve the quality of avocado growth and produce a better harvest. The study also found that optimal watering intervals can improve the quality of avocado growth. The combination of chicken manure and proper watering intervals can increase the efficiency of avocado cultivation.

Additionally, studies on the effects of different watering intervals, such as every other day or every three days, on avocado growth can also be conducted.

Limitations of the Study

This study has some limitations that should be noted. The study was conducted in a greenhouse, which may not be representative of field conditions. Additionally, the study only examined the effects of chicken manure and watering intervals on avocado growth, and did not examine the effects of other factors, such as temperature or light, on growth.
