Introduction

In the context of student life, access to reliable and engaging information about lifestyle is crucial for their overall satisfaction and well-being. Aplaus tabloids have emerged as a popular medium for providing a wide range of interesting information about lifestyle, catering to the diverse interests of students. This study aims to investigate the relationship between interest in reading the Aplaus tabloid and student satisfaction in obtaining lifestyle information. The research involved 87 students from seven majors at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), University of North Sumatra (USU).

Research Analysis

The primary focus of this study is to examine the extent to which the attraction of the Aplaus tabloid influences student lifestyle satisfaction. Based on the data collected, the respondents involved in this study consisted of 79.3% women and 20.7% men, indicating that women dominate the readership of the tabloid. Furthermore, the data revealed that the majority of students receive a monthly allowance of 700,000-1,000,000 rupiah, while 23% of respondents have an allowance of more than 1,000,000 rupiah.

The results of the study showed that the level of interest in respondents to the Aplaus tabloid was categorized as medium, with 58.6% of respondents displaying moderate interest, 39.1% low interest, and only 2.3% showing high interest. This finding suggests that although there is attention to lifestyle content presented, there is still a significant opportunity to increase the attractiveness and relevance of content to make the reader more engaged.

Significant Relationship

One of the key findings of this study is the significant relationship between the interest in reading the Aplaus tabloid and student satisfaction in obtaining a variety of information about lifestyle. By utilizing a product moment calculation, the results obtained were 0.384, which falls within the category of sufficient, indicating a positive correlation between the two variables. With a significance level of 0.05, the rtable value obtained was 0.208. Since the Rxy value (0.384) is greater than the Rtable value (0.208), the null hypothesis (HO) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted.

Conclusion

This study highlights the importance of the role of the Aplaus tabloid in providing information about lifestyle to students. Although the current level of student interest in the tabloid is still classified as moderate, the results indicating a significant relationship between interest and satisfaction suggest the potential to increase reader engagement. Going forward, the editorial of the Aplaus tabloid can consider input from students to develop content that is more relevant and attractive, thereby increasing the satisfaction and interest of the reader.
