In this study, it will be analyzed how the role of youth affects the development of the region in Aceh Tamiang Regency from the perspective of social geography.

The Importance of Human Resources in Regional Development

Human resources play a crucial role in regional development, as they are the backbone of any successful development process. The availability of skilled and educated human resources can attract investments, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth. In the context of Aceh Tamiang Regency, human resources are essential for the region's development, as they can contribute to the growth of various sectors, including agriculture, industry, and services.

The Role of Youth in Regional Development

Youth, as a component of human resources, has a significant role to play in regional development. They are the future leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs who can drive economic growth, create jobs, and stimulate social change. In Aceh Tamiang Regency, youth can contribute to the region's development by creating new initiatives, motivating others to be involved in development programs, and providing new ideas to solve the challenges faced by the community.

Research Methods

This study uses a survey approach, where data is collected from a sample representing the youth population in Aceh Tamiang Regency. By referring to the 2013 Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data, the number of young people aged 17 to 30 years in the district reached 69,813 people. To determine the sample size, the Slovin formula is used, which produces a total of 100 respondents to be analyzed. This study is also an explanatory, where the main purpose is to explain the effect between variables and test the hypothesis that has been formulated.

Analysis of the Role of Youth in Regional Development

The results showed that youth in Aceh Tamiang Regency played an important role in regional development. The role is divided into five main aspects: dynamic, catalyst, motivator, innovator, and evaluator.

Dynamisator

Youth has the ability to move the community and the environment around them. They can create new initiatives and motivate others to be involved in various development programs. For example, youth can create a community-based organization to promote sustainable agriculture practices, or they can organize a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of education.

Catalyst

Youth functions as a liaison between various elements of society, including the government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. By becoming a liaison, they speed up a more effective decision-making process. For instance, youth can facilitate communication between the government and local communities to ensure that development projects are implemented effectively.

Motivator

Through various social activities and empowerment programs, youth can inspire the community to be more active in regional development, both economically and socially. For example, youth can organize a community-based project to promote entrepreneurship, or they can create a social media campaign to raise awareness about the importance of health and wellness.

Innovator

New ideas from youth can be a solution to the challenges faced by the community. For instance, youth can develop a new product or service that meets the needs of the local community, or they can create a new business model that promotes sustainable development.

Evaluator

Although a positive effect, the role of youth evaluators in the development project does not show high significance. This might indicate that, although important, the evaluation aspect often does not get enough attention in the development process. However, youth evaluators can still play a crucial role in ensuring that development projects are implemented effectively and that the community's needs are met.

Conclusion

From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the role of youth in Aceh Tamiang Regency is very influential in regional development from the perspective of social geography. Overall, the role of youth as a dynamic, catalyst, motivator, and innovator has a significant positive influence on regional development. Meanwhile, the role of evaluator still has a positive but insignificant influence. Therefore, strengthening the role of youth in various aspects of regional development is very necessary, both through education, training, and providing access to broader opportunities to contribute to regional development.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

  1. Strengthening the role of youth in regional development: The government and local authorities should provide opportunities for youth to participate in regional development, both through education and training programs and through access to resources and funding.
  2. Empowering youth as innovators and entrepreneurs: The government and private sector should provide support to youth who want to start their own businesses or develop new products and services that meet the needs of the local community.
  3. Fostering a culture of evaluation and accountability: The government and local authorities should ensure that development projects are implemented effectively and that the community's needs are met. This can be achieved by establishing a culture of evaluation and accountability, where youth evaluators can play a crucial role.
