Analysis of the Implementation of the Covid-19 Prevention Protocol and Medical Waste Treatment and Health Complaints of Officers at the PB Selayang II Puskesmas in 2021
Introduction
The Covid-19 pandemic, which began in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in December 2019, has led to the spread of viruses globally, resulting in many lives lost around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared Covid-19 as a global pandemic on March 11, 2020. In this context, the Puskesmas became one of the important health facilities in the effort to handle public health, despite the high risk of the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Therefore, it is essential to analyze how the COVID-19 prevention protocol, medical waste management, and health complaints from officers at the PB Selayang II Puskesmas during 2021.
Background
The Covid-19 pandemic has put a significant strain on the healthcare system worldwide, including Indonesia. The Puskesmas, as a primary healthcare facility, plays a crucial role in the prevention and control of the pandemic. The implementation of the COVID-19 prevention protocol and medical waste management is critical in reducing the risk of transmission and protecting the health of healthcare workers. However, despite these efforts, healthcare workers are still at risk of exposure to the virus, which can lead to health complaints.
Methodology
This study uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey method carried out from February to September 2021. The survey was conducted among healthcare workers at the PB Selayang II Puskesmas, and the data was collected through a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of questions related to the healthcare workers' knowledge of the COVID-19 protocol, medical waste management, and health complaints.
Results
The results of the analysis showed that the healthcare workers' knowledge of the COVID-19 protocol was quite good. This indicates that they have sufficient understanding of the preventive measures that must be taken, such as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), routine hand washing, and the application of social distance. Medical waste management was also reported well, given the importance of waste management to prevent the potential for viral transmission through medical waste.
However, behind these efforts, there are health problems experienced by healthcare workers. As many as 30% or 15 healthcare workers reported experiencing health complaints related to COVID-19, which was detected through the results of swab or PCR. This shows that although the application of the protocol runs well, healthcare workers are still at risk of exposure to viruses, the possibility of direct interaction with infected patients or in the process of handling medical waste that has the potential to be contaminated.
Discussion
The results of this study highlight the importance of implementing the COVID-19 prevention protocol and medical waste management in reducing the risk of transmission and protecting the health of healthcare workers. However, despite these efforts, healthcare workers are still at risk of exposure to the virus, which can lead to health complaints. This shows the need for more attention in providing mental and physical health support for healthcare workers, as well as ensuring that they have sufficient access to the necessary protective equipment and healthcare.
Conclusion
In conclusion, despite the implementation of the COVID-19 prevention protocol and medical waste treatment at the PB Selayang II Puskesmas in 2021 has been carried out well, there are still challenges in maintaining the health of healthcare workers. This shows the need for more attention in providing mental and physical health support for healthcare workers, as well as ensuring that they have sufficient access to the necessary protective equipment and healthcare. Through these steps, it is expected to improve the safety and health of medical officers in carrying out their duties in the middle of the pandemic.

- Small sample size: The study was conducted among a small sample of healthcare workers at the PB Selayang II Puskesmas.
- Limited data collection: The study relied on self-reported data from healthcare workers, which may be subject to bias.
- Limited generalizability: The study was conducted in a specific setting and may not be generalizable to other healthcare settings.
