Introduction
The agricultural sector in Indonesia is a promising area for economic growth, and one of the most promising sub-sectors is the cassava agribusiness. Cassava is a versatile crop that can be used to produce a variety of derivative products, making it an attractive option for farmers and entrepreneurs. The development of cassava agribusiness aims to increase the competitiveness of agricultural products, add value to farmers' income, encourage economic growth in rural areas, and improve the welfare of the community.
In this study, we analyzed the feasibility of farming and processing cassava in Dolok Masihul District and Pegajahan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, and formulated a strategy for the development of cassava agribusiness in the region. Our study used a descriptive design, involving 20 cassava farmers and 10 cassava processing entrepreneurs who produce 4 types of products.
Feasibility of Cassava Farming
The results of our study showed that, in general, farming cassava in the two districts is feasible to run. However, the profits obtained are not too high due to the large labor costs involved. This indicates that efforts need to be made to improve labor efficiency, for example, by applying more effective land mechanization or processing technology.
Labor Efficiency: A Key to Success
The high labor costs associated with cassava farming are a major challenge for farmers in the region. To overcome this challenge, farmers need to adopt more efficient farming practices, such as using mechanized equipment to reduce labor requirements. Additionally, farmers can benefit from using organic fertilizers and appropriate irrigation systems to increase yields and reduce production costs.
Feasibility of Processing Cassava
Our research also showed that processing cassava is feasible and profitable. This indicates that there is a great potential to develop the cassava processing industry in the region, which in turn will increase the added value of products and income for business actors.
Market Development and Product Diversification

This can be achieved through cooperation with the processing industry, innovative processed product development, and access to the export market. By diversifying products and expanding the market, cassava processing entrepreneurs can increase their income and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
