Introduction

The use of pipelines in the field of civil engineering is crucial, especially in the drinking water distribution system. The fulfillment of drinking water needs for daily life is not only essential but also requires careful calculations in pipeline analysis. In the water distribution system, one of the factors that needs to be considered is the loss of high pressure. If the discharge and high pressure loss exceed the threshold, the water distribution can be disrupted and does not meet the customer's needs properly.

In this study, the focus is on analyzing the calculation of debit and head loss on the pipeline system in the Tirtanadi PDAM Sunggal Branch of the Taman Setia Budi II Housing Area Medan. The analysis aims to determine the current condition of the water distribution network and identify areas for improvement.

Methodology

To complete this analysis, the first step taken is to collect data, both primary and secondary data, from PDAM Tirtanadi Sunggal Branch. The data collected is then used to calculate the discharge and loss of high pressure. This calculation is carried out using the Hardy-Cross method and the Darcy-Weisbach equation, which is a standard method in civil engineering to analyze fluid flow in pipes.

The data collected includes the total demand for drinking water in the residential area of Taman Setia Budi Indah II Medan, which reached a total of 822,060 m³ per day with a total of 693 customers. Furthermore, the capacity of the peak load, namely the need for water during maximum hours, counting at 0.045545 m³/second. In addition, the loss of pressure height due to friction in the pipe in the size of 63-61 is 0.73097 m.

Results

The calculation results show that the loss of high pressure in the region reached 4.67%. Based on the results of these calculations, it was concluded that the PDAM Tirtanadi Sunggal Branch was able to meet the daily water needs in the residential area of Taman Setia Budi Indah II Medan. The quality of water drainage in the area is fairly good, with loss of pressure smaller than 20%.

However, a number of factors contribute to high pressure loss, including technical, non-technical factors, and the use of illegal pumps by customers that can worsen the distribution of water. The use of illegal pumps not only harms the PDAM but can also cause damage to the pipeline and impact water flow to other customers.

Discussion

It is essential to note that even though the water needs in this area have been met, strict monitoring is still needed to prevent problems in the future. One step that can be taken is to carry out routine maintenance of the pipeline system so that the efficiency of water flow is maintained.

In addition, education to customers regarding the use of water and understanding of the impact of the use of illegal pumps is also very necessary. The use of illegal pumps can not only harm the PDAM but can also cause damage to the pipeline and impact water flow to other customers.

Analysis of pressure loss can also be the basis for PDAM Tirtanadi Sunggal Branch to plan the development of infrastructure going forward, including increasing the capacity of pipelines and adjusting to increasing the number of customers. This is important so that the distribution of water not only meets the current needs, but is also able to anticipate population growth and water needs in the future.

Conclusion

Thus, this study not only provides an overview of the current condition of the water distribution network but also opens opportunities for continuous improvement and development in meeting the needs of community drinking water. The analysis of debit and head loss on the pipeline system in the Tirtanadi PDAM Sunggal Branch of the Taman Setia Budi II Housing Area Medan provides valuable insights into the current condition of the water distribution network and identifies areas for improvement.
