This study aims to analyze the achievement of minimum service standards for diabetes mellitus services at the Binjai City Health Center, with a focus on identifying obstacles and providing recommendations for improvement.

Background

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a major public health concern in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 9.3% among adults aged 20-79 years. The Binjai City Health Center is one of the primary healthcare facilities in the city, providing essential services to the community, including DM care. However, the SPM DM achievement at the Binjai City Health Center is still below the target of 100%, with a score of 70%. This study aims to investigate the factors contributing to this suboptimal achievement and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • This has an impact on limited access to medical devices, medicines, and adequate educational programs.

Low Community Participation

  • The community around the Binjai City Health Center still has an unfavorable understanding of diabetes mellitus.
  • The low community participation in the prevention and handling of diabetes mellitus makes the efforts made by the Puskesmas to be less effective.

The lack of trained and experienced experts in the field of diabetes mellitus is a major obstacle, making the services provided not optimal and difficulty in reaching all patients in need. The limited allocation of funds for activities related to diabetes mellitus also has an impact on limited access to medical devices, medicines, and adequate educational programs. Furthermore, the low community participation in the prevention and handling of diabetes mellitus makes the efforts made by the Puskesmas to be less effective.

Solutions and Recommendations
