Introduction
Tax is one of the largest sources of income for countries, obtained from the income tax sector, value added tax, and other taxes. To increase tax revenue, the government encourages an increase in tax literacy among taxpayers. It is intended that taxpayers can understand their obligations and increase the level of compliance in tax payments. In this context, this study aims to determine the level of tax literacy among MSMEs in Toba Regency, as well as to find out the level of compliance of MSME taxpayers in the area, and also to analyze the effect of tax literacy knowledge on compliance with MSME taxpayers.
Background
The government's efforts to increase tax revenue are crucial in supporting the country's economic growth. One of the ways to achieve this goal is by increasing tax literacy among taxpayers. Tax literacy refers to the knowledge and understanding of tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to comply with them. In Indonesia, the government has implemented various programs to increase tax literacy among taxpayers, including education and training, socialization, and facilitation of tax reporting.

The data used is primary data obtained through a questionnaire containing respondents' answers. Data analysis is carried out using descriptive statistics by utilizing the frequency table to describe the results obtained.

In this study, the level of tax literacy in Toba Regency is quite good, with a score of 79%. Meanwhile, the level of tax compliance of MSMEs is also classified as high, with 70% of respondents show compliance in tax payments.
Discussion
The good level of tax literacy in Toba Regency shows that SMEs have understood the importance of paying taxes and the consequences of these obligations. High tax literacy not only functions as basic knowledge, but also increases awareness of the rights and obligations possessed by each taxpayer. This is very important, especially for MSMEs, which are often considered to have limited knowledge about tax regulations.
High tax compliance among MSMEs in Toba reflects that they are aware of the positive impacts of the tax paid, such as improving infrastructure, public services, and other government programs. With a good level of compliance, it is expected that MSMEs can contribute greater to the regional and state economy.
However, the challenges are still there in front, such as lack of socialization about changes in tax regulations and facilities that support a better tax reporting process. Therefore, efforts to increase tax literacy must continue to be carried out, including education and training, so that MSMEs increasingly understand the taxation system and are able to meet their obligations well.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study found that tax literacy knowledge has a positive influence on the compliance of MSME taxpayers in Toba Regency. The good level of tax literacy and high tax compliance among MSMEs in the area reflect the importance of tax education and training. However, the challenges in front of us, such as lack of socialization and facilities that support a better tax reporting process, must be addressed to increase tax literacy and compliance among MSMEs.
