Analysis Of Implementation Of School Dental Health Business Programs In The Working Area Of the Durian Puskesmas Durian Brandan Barat District, Langkat Regency In 2018
Analysis of Implementation of School Dental Health Business Programs at Tangkahan Puskesmas Durian Brandan Barat District, Langkat Regency in 2018
Introduction
Dental and oral health is often not a top priority for many people, especially among children. The problem that often arises is dental caries, which can have severe consequences on a child's overall health and well-being. According to the Langkat Regency Health Profile in 2017, only 260 elementary schools received dental and oral health services, which are equivalent to 32.2% of the total amount. This figure reflects the low interest of children and parents' attention to oral and oral health care. In this context, the School Dental Health Business Program (UKGS) is expected to be an effort to prevent and improve dental and oral health problems among elementary school students. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the UKGS program in the working area of the Tangkahan Durian Health Center in 2018.
The Importance of School Dental Health Business Programs
School dental health business programs are crucial in promoting good oral health habits among children. These programs provide a platform for children to learn about the importance of oral health, how to maintain good oral hygiene, and how to prevent dental caries. By implementing these programs, schools can help reduce the incidence of dental caries and other oral health problems among children. Furthermore, school dental health business programs can also help identify children who may be at risk of oral health problems, allowing for early intervention and treatment.
Research Methodology
This study uses a qualitative approach by conducting in-depth interviews with 12 informants, consisting of the Head of Puskesmas, UKGS staff, teachers, parents, and elementary school students. This approach allows researchers to gain a comprehensive understanding of program implementation. The qualitative approach was chosen because it provides a detailed and nuanced understanding of the implementation of the UKGS program, which is essential for identifying areas of improvement.
Research Results
The results of this study showed that the implementation of the UKGS program at the Tangkahan Durian Health Center was classified as less than optimal. Here are some key points found:
Human Resources
Implementing the UKGS program in schools only comes from Puskesmas officers, without special officers at the school itself. This causes a lack of supervision and assistance to students. The absence of special officers at the school level makes it difficult for the program to be implemented effectively.
Facilities and Infrastructure
Available facilities and infrastructure are very limited, and funding obtained from Health Operational Assistance (BOK) is also insufficient to support the implementation of programs effectively. The lack of adequate facilities and infrastructure hinders the program's ability to provide quality services to students.
Basic Dental Medical Actions
Basic dental medical actions cannot be carried out in schools, and activities such as mass toothbrushes and training for teachers have never been carried out. The inability to conduct basic dental medical actions in schools limits the program's ability to provide comprehensive services to students.
Output and Achievement
Coverage of referrals of elementary school students does not reach the expected target (80%), with achievements that are only at 30%. This shows unfavorable results in the implementation of the program. The low coverage of referrals and achievements indicates that the program is not effective in reaching its target audience.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the UKGS program at the Tangkahan Durian Health Center has not been implemented optimally. Therefore, it is expected that the Head of the Langkat Regency Health Office to increase the provision of facilities and infrastructure that supports the implementation of dental health programs in schools. In addition, better cooperation between Puskesmas and schools is very important so that all parties can commit to improving the quality of children's dental and oral health.
By improving the implementation of the UKGS program, it is hoped that a healthier environment can be created for students, and oral dental and dental health problems can be reduced significantly in the future. The success of the UKGS program depends on the commitment of all stakeholders, including Puskesmas, schools, and the community, to work together to promote good oral health habits among children.
Recommendations for Future Research
Future research should focus on identifying the factors that contribute to the low implementation of the UKGS program. This can include examining the role of Puskesmas, schools, and the community in promoting good oral health habits among children. Additionally, research should focus on developing strategies to improve the implementation of the UKGS program, such as increasing funding, improving facilities and infrastructure, and enhancing cooperation between Puskesmas and schools.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of school dental health business programs in promoting good oral health habits among children. The results of this study show that the implementation of the UKGS program at the Tangkahan Durian Health Center was less than optimal. Therefore, it is essential to improve the implementation of the program by increasing the provision of facilities and infrastructure, enhancing cooperation between Puskesmas and schools, and developing strategies to promote good oral health habits among children. By doing so, we can create a healthier environment for students and reduce the incidence of oral health problems in the future.
