Introduction
The Food Estate program, initiated by the government, aims to increase national food production and food security in Indonesia. This program is implemented in various regions, one of which is in Ria Ria Village, Pollung District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra Province. The program's success depends on the readiness and perception of farmers in running this program. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the readiness and perception of farmers in Ria Ria Village towards the Food Estate program.
Methodology
This study involved 63 respondents, chosen proportionally based on cluster sampling. The research highlights two main aspects, namely:
- Farmers' Readiness Level: Analysis is carried out by paying attention to aspects of knowledge, skills, availability of production inputs, access to production inputs, and access to markets for both partners and non-mitra.
- Farmers' Perceptions of the Food Estate Program: The results of the study show that the perception of farmers towards this program tends to be positive.
Supporting Factors of Farmers Readiness
Several factors that support farmers' readiness in Ria Ria Village to run a food estate program, including:
Knowledge and Skills: Farmers in this region have sufficient knowledge and skills in agriculture, especially in planting rice. Availability of Production Input: Access to production inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds are relatively easy to obtain in this region. Market Access: Farmers have good access to the market, both through partners and independently.

Although the results of the study showed the positive readiness and perception of the farmers, it should be remembered that some things still need to be a concern:
Skills Improvement: Sustainable training and assistance programs can help improve the skills and knowledge of farmers, especially in adopting modern agricultural technology and practices. Product Diversification: Food estate program can encourage farmers to diversify agricultural products, so that it does not only depend on one type of commodity. Farmers Empowerment: Increasing the participation and involvement of farmers in decision making related to the Food Estate program can strengthen their sense of ownership and responsibility for this program.
Conclusion
This study shows that farmers in Ria Ria Village, Pollung District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra Province, have good readiness and positive perceptions of the Food Estate program. This is an important capital for the success of this program. However, it should be remembered that this readiness needs to be accompanied by efforts to improve farmers' skills, product diversification, and empowerment of farmers so that the Food Estate program can run optimally and have a positive impact on the community and national food security.
Recommendations
Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:
- Sustainable Training and Assistance Programs: The government and other stakeholders should provide sustainable training and assistance programs to improve the skills and knowledge of farmers, especially in adopting modern agricultural technology and practices.
- Product Diversification: The Food Estate program should encourage farmers to diversify agricultural products, so that it does not only depend on one type of commodity.
- Farmers Empowerment: The participation and involvement of farmers in decision making related to the Food Estate program should be increased to strengthen their sense of ownership and responsibility for this program.
Limitations of the Study
This study has several limitations, including:
- Sample Size: The sample size of this study is relatively small, which may not be representative of the entire population of farmers in Ria Ria Village.
- Data Collection Method: The data collection method used in this study is based on a survey, which may not capture the complexity of the issues related to farmers' readiness and perception of the Food Estate program.
