Introduction
The beef cattle business is a significant sector in the agricultural industry, providing a source of income for many farmers worldwide. In Perbaungan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra, beef cattle breeding is a crucial activity that contributes to the local economy. However, the income of beef cattle breeders in this region is influenced by various factors, including their profile. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the profile of farmers and income in the beef cattle business in Perbaungan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency.
Background of the Study
The beef cattle business in Perbaungan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, has been growing rapidly in recent years. However, the income of beef cattle breeders in this region is still relatively low compared to other areas. Several factors are believed to contribute to this situation, including the lack of education and training, inadequate management systems, and limited access to information and markets. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the factors that affect the income of beef cattle breeders in this region.
Methodology
This study employed a survey research method, with a sample unit consisting of beef cattle breeder families. The sampling technique used was proportional stratified random sampling, with three villages selected: three-week intersection (low population), adolina (average population), and 2 jasmine (high population). A total of 21 families of beef cattle breeders were selected, representing 30% of the number of breeders in each village.
Results
The results of this study showed that education and livestock management system had a positive impact on the income of beef cattle breeders. Conversely, the experience and age of the breeder showed a negative impact on income. These findings suggest that farmers with a higher level of education and implement a better management system tend to have higher income.
Deeper Analysis
Education and Management System
The results indicate that farmers with a higher level of education and implement a better management system tend to have higher income. This may be because they have better knowledge and abilities in managing livestock, choosing superior seeds, applying appropriate maintenance techniques, and marketing livestock products. Education and training programs can help beef cattle breeders acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to improve their income.
Experience and Age
The negative impact of experience and age on income may be caused by several factors. Older and experienced breeders may not necessarily follow the latest developments in livestock technology and marketing strategies, so that they have decreased income. This highlights the importance of continuous education and training for beef cattle breeders to stay updated with the latest developments in the industry.
Suggestions and Recommendations
Improvement of Education and Training
Government and related agencies need to improve education and training programs for beef cattle breeders, especially in terms of livestock management, modern maintenance technology, and marketing strategies. This can help beef cattle breeders acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to improve their income.
Facilitating Access to Information
Facilitate farmers' access to the latest information about livestock technology, markets, and related policies can help improve their knowledge and abilities. This can be achieved through various means, including workshops, training programs, and online resources.
Development of Marketing Systems
Increasing market access for farmers, such as forming a joint business group, can help them sell livestock products at better prices. This can also help beef cattle breeders to negotiate better prices for their products and increase their income.

This study provides valuable insight into the factors that affect the income of beef cattle breeders. By applying the proposed suggestions and recommendations, it is expected that the income of beef cattle breeders in Perbaungan District can be increased, so as to support the welfare of farmers and economic growth in the region.
