Analysis of Factors that Influence the Completeness of the Status of Basic Immunization in Infants in the Working Area of the JEULINGKE Puskesmas, Banda Aceh City in 2014

Introduction

Diseases that can be prevented by immunization (PD3I) are one of the main causes of death in infants and toddlers. The low coverage of complete basic immunization is one of the factors that contribute to this problem. According to the Riskesdas 2013 data, complete basic immunization coverage in children aged 12-23 months in Indonesia only reached 59.2%. In the working area of the Jeulingke Puskesmas in Banda Aceh City, the complete basic immunization coverage in the last two years is also below the target set by the government, which is 67% in 2013 and 73.1% in 2014. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the completeness of the status of basic immunization in infants in the working area of the JEULINGKE Puskesmas, Banda Aceh City in 2014.

Methodology

This study uses a control case method with a population of 507 children aged 12-23 months in the work area of the Jeulingke Health Center. A total of 92 children with incomplete basic immunization status were chosen as cases, and 92 children with a complete basic immunization status were chosen as controls. Data was collected through interviews using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test and multiple logistics regression analysis.

Results

The results of bivariate analysis show that there are 5 variables that have a significant effect on the completeness of basic immunization status in infants, namely knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, support of health workers, and family support. Multivariate analysis with logistics regression shows that 4 variables have a significant effect, namely:

*** Knowledge: OR = 2.3; 95% CI (1,12-4.88) *** Perception: OR = 2.52; 95% CI (1,18-5.37) *** Support of Health Workers: OR = 2,98; 95% CI (1.08-8.23) *** Family Support: OR = 5.86; 95% CI (2,69-12.76)

Of the four variables, Family Support has the most dominant influence on the completeness of basic immunization status in infants.

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that family support has a significant effect on the completeness of basic immunization status in infants. This is consistent with previous studies that have shown that family support is a critical factor in determining the completion of basic immunization. The study also found that knowledge, perception, and support of health workers have a significant effect on the completeness of basic immunization status in infants.

Conclusion

Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the Jeulingke Puskesmas Banda Aceh City increases the coverage of immunization, especially measles, DPT-HB3, and Polio 4 by increasing family support. This can be done by:

Increasing the role of the family in advocating and reminding mothers to bring a complete basic immunization child according to schedule.

*Intensive counseling and socialization about the importance of complete basic immunization.

Increasing family support is the main key in increasing the coverage of complete basic immunization. By increasing family knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of immunization, it is expected to encourage mothers to actively participate in providing complete basic immunization for their children.

Recommendations

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made:

  1. Increase the role of the family in advocating and reminding mothers to bring a complete basic immunization child according to schedule.
  2. *Intensive counseling and socialization about the importance of complete basic immunization.
  3. Increase the support of health workers in providing information and counseling to mothers about the importance of complete basic immunization.
  4. Develop a program to increase the knowledge and attitudes of mothers towards complete basic immunization.

By implementing these recommendations, it is expected that the coverage of complete basic immunization in the working area of the Jeulingke Puskesmas, Banda Aceh City will increase, and the number of children who are not fully immunized will decrease.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study only focused on the working area of the Jeulingke Puskesmas, Banda Aceh City, and may not be generalizable to other areas. Secondly, the study only used a control case method, which may not be able to capture the complexity of the factors that influence the completeness of basic immunization status in infants.

Future Research

Future research should aim to investigate the factors that influence the completeness of basic immunization status in infants in other areas, and to develop a program to increase the coverage of complete basic immunization. Additionally, research should be conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the recommendations made in this study.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study found that family support has a significant effect on the completeness of basic immunization status in infants. The study also found that knowledge, perception, and support of health workers have a significant effect on the completeness of basic immunization status in infants. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that the Jeulingke Puskesmas Banda Aceh City increases the coverage of immunization, especially measles, DPT-HB3, and Polio 4 by increasing family support.
