Introduction

Carrots (Daucus Carota L.) are one of the most widely cultivated seasonal plants in highlands, with their main results being tubers. The ease of maintenance of carrots has made many farmers interested in pursuing this farm business. However, the level of income from carrot farming can vary greatly depending on several factors. This study aims to analyze the level of carrot farming income and the factors that affect the level of income in Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency.

Methodology

In this study, the theory used is farming theory to determine the level of carrot farming, and multiple linear regression analysis methods to find out the factors that affect carrot farming income. The results showed that the average farming farm revenue in Simpang Empat District reached Rp 9,905,329 per planting season.

Analysis of Factors Affecting Carrot Farming Income

The analysis shows that simultaneously, seed costs, fertilizer costs, pesticide costs, land area, training, and farmer groups have a significant influence on income. However, when viewed from partial influence, only fertilizer costs and land area have a significant impact on income. While the cost of seeds, pesticide costs, training, and farmer groups do not have a significant influence on income.

Fertilizer Cost

Fertilizer is one of the important components in carrot cultivation that affects plant productivity. The use of the right fertilizer not only increases yields, but also the quality of carrot tubers produced. Therefore, investment in fertilizer can contribute positively to farmers' incomes. A well-planned fertilizer application can lead to higher yields and better quality carrots, which can result in higher income for farmers.

Land Area

The area of land managed by carrot farmers directly correlates with the volume of production. The greater the land owned, the more carrots that can be produced, which has implications for increasing income. This shows that access to land is quite important for the success of farming. Land area is a critical factor in determining the level of income from carrot farming, as it directly affects the volume of production.

Seed Cost

The cost of seeds is an important factor in carrot farming, as it affects the initial investment required for planting. However, the analysis shows that seed cost does not have a significant influence on income. This may be caused by the selection of seed varieties that are not optimal or the use of inefficient pesticides. Optimizing seed selection and pesticide use can help reduce costs and increase income.

Pesticide Cost

Pesticide cost is another important factor in carrot farming, as it affects the cost of production. However, the analysis shows that pesticide cost does not have a significant influence on income. This may be caused by the use of inefficient pesticides or the lack of proper application techniques. Using efficient pesticides and proper application techniques can help reduce costs and increase income.

Training

Training is an important factor in carrot farming, as it affects the knowledge and skills of farmers. However, the analysis shows that training does not have a significant influence on income. This may be caused by the lack of quality training or the lack of proper implementation of training. Providing quality training and proper implementation can help increase income.

Farmer Groups

Farmer groups are an important factor in carrot farming, as they affect the level of support and resources available to farmers. However, the analysis shows that farmer groups do not have a significant influence on income. This may be caused by the lack of effective communication or the lack of proper coordination. Effective communication and coordination among farmer groups can help increase income.

Conclusion

This study revealed that the level of carrot farming income in Simpang Empat District was quite promising, with a significant influence on fertilizer costs and land area. Farmers need to focus on managing fertilizer and optimizing land use to increase yield and income. In addition, to increase understanding of the importance of efficient cultivation techniques, support from the government and related institutions in the form of quality training is very necessary. With the right steps, carrot farming in this region has the potential to develop better in the future.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

  • Farmers should focus on managing fertilizer and optimizing land use to increase yield and income.
  • The government and related institutions should provide quality training to farmers to increase understanding of the importance of efficient cultivation techniques.
  • Farmers should optimize seed selection and pesticide use to reduce costs and increase income.
  • Farmers should use efficient pesticides and proper application techniques to reduce costs and increase income.
  • Farmer groups should provide effective communication and coordination to increase income.

Limitations

This study has several limitations, including:

  • The study only focused on Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency, and may not be generalizable to other regions.
  • The study only analyzed the factors that affect carrot farming income and may not have considered other factors that may affect income.
  • The study only used multiple linear regression analysis and may not have considered other statistical methods that may be more appropriate for the data.

Future Research

Future research should focus on:

  • Analyzing the factors that affect carrot farming income in other regions.
  • Considering other factors that may affect income, such as climate change, market demand, and government policies.
  • Using other statistical methods that may be more appropriate for the data, such as generalized linear models or machine learning algorithms.
