Introduction

The world of entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly popular among students, especially those from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of North Sumatra. With the growing demand for innovative and sustainable agricultural practices, it is essential to understand the factors that influence the intentions of these students to become entrepreneurs in the field of agribusiness. This study aims to analyze the internal and external factors that affect the intentions of Faculty of Agriculture students to become entrepreneurs in agribusiness.

Methodology

The research was conducted in May 2017 using the Purposive method, which involves selecting respondents based on certain criteria. The study focused on two categories of factors: internal factors and external factors. Internal factors include personality, knowledge of entrepreneurship, and individual desires, while external factors include family parenting, opportunities that are around, and available business networks. A multiple linear regression method was used to analyze the data and determine the influence of each factor on student intentions.

Internal Factors

Internal factors play a significant role in shaping the intentions of students to become entrepreneurs. Among the three internal factor variables, personality is the most dominant variable. This suggests that the nature and character of individuals have an important role in determining whether someone wants to start a business. Strong and positive personalities tend to encourage individuals to take risks and innovate, which are essential qualities in the world of entrepreneurship.

External Factors

External factors also make a significant contribution to the intention of students to become entrepreneurs. Of the three variables available, the business network is the most dominant variable. The existence of a good business network can open various opportunities for students to establish cooperation, get capital, and learn from the experience of others in business. A solid and extensive network is one of the keys to success in running a business.

Combination of Internal and External Factors

The combination of internal and external factors is crucial in shaping the intention of students to become entrepreneurs in agribusiness. Knowledge of entrepreneurship and support from the social environment, including families and business networks, contribute to building student motivation to innovate and create new businesses.

This study concludes that both internal and external factors have a significant influence on the intention of students to become entrepreneurs in the field of agribusiness. This effort will not only provide benefits to individual students but can also contribute to the development of the agribusiness sector in Indonesia as a whole.
