Aitem Analysis Dimensions are Fearing at USU Bintang Inventory: Increase Validity and Reliability

Introduction

The University of North Sumatra (USU) Bintang inventory is a widely used tool for measuring the character of students, particularly in the dimension of "pious." However, the validity and reliability of this inventory have been questioned by many researchers. This study aims to analyze the dimensions of fear in the USU Bintang inventory using a descriptive quantitative approach with the convenience sampling technique. The research sample consisted of 1907 students of the University of North Sumatra, class of 2022.

Methodology

This study used a descriptive quantitative approach with the convenience sampling technique to analyze the "pious" dimension in the USU Bintang inventory. The research sample consisted of 1907 students of the University of North Sumatra, class of 2022. Analysis of the dimensions of "pious" using the rasch model, which included the analysis of the reliability coefficient (with the reliability value of people and the reliability Analysis of Individual Ability Index.

The results of the analysis using Winstep 3.73 software for Windows indicate the low reliability coefficient of people. However, the reliability of the item on the "pious" dimension is considered good for all packages. Validity coefficient, based on the value of mnsq infit and mnsq outfit in the range of 0.6-1.4, declared valid. Of the 70 items, 52 items are classified as valid, while 18 other items are invalid.

Results

The results of the analysis indicate that there are 23 items from 70 items that have a high level of difficulty. Analysis of people's size shows that 1884 respondents have a high "pious" character, while 23 respondents are categorized as low.

Discussion

The results of this study suggest that the dimensions of "pious" items in the USU Bintang inventory can be used, but it is necessary to improve items that are invalid. This research recommendation includes:

  • Increasing reliability: The need for further research to increase the reliability of items, maybe by adding new items or revising existing items to increase measurement consistency.
  • Increasing validity: In invalid items need to be revised or eliminated to increase the validity of the "pious" dimension.
  • Deeper analysis: Further research is needed to analyze the factors that affect the level of difficulty of the item and the ability of individuals in the dimension of "pious."

Benefits of Research

This study made an important contribution to the development of USU Bintang inventory, especially in measuring the "pious" dimension. The results of this study can be used to:

  • Improving the quality of inventory: Revision items and increasing reliability and validity will improve the quality of USU Bintang inventory in measuring the character "pious" students.
  • Strengthening Character Development Program: Research results can be the basis for developing programs that are more effective in fostering "pious" character among students.
  • Improve understanding of student character: The results of the character analysis of "pious" students can help in understanding student character profiles and developing more effective learning strategies.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study suggests that the dimensions of "pious" items in the USU Bintang inventory can be used, but it is necessary to improve items that are invalid. This research recommendation includes increasing reliability, increasing validity, and deeper analysis. The results of this study can be used to improve the quality of inventory, strengthen character development programs, and improve understanding of student character.

Limitations

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the sample size is relatively small, which may not be representative of the entire student population. Secondly, the study only analyzed the "pious" dimension, which may not be comprehensive enough to capture the full range of student character.

Future Research Directions

Future research should focus on increasing the reliability and validity of the USU Bintang inventory. This can be achieved by adding new items or revising existing items to increase measurement consistency. Additionally, further research is needed to analyze the factors that affect the level of difficulty of the item and the ability of individuals in the dimension of "pious."
