Introduction
Nutritional problems have become a significant issue in public health, with obesity and overweight conditions becoming increasingly prevalent due to calorie imbalances in the body. One of the primary causes of obesity is excessive consumption of unhealthy foods, which can have a profound impact on a person's nutritional status. Food consumption needs play a crucial role in determining a person's overall health, and choosing the right foods can provide all the necessary nutrients for normal body function.
Background
Obesity is a complex issue that affects not only individuals but also communities and societies as a whole. It is a major risk factor for various health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. In Indonesia, obesity has become a significant public health concern, with a growing number of young women experiencing obesity and related health problems. This study aims to identify factors related to overweight in young women in Panca Budi Medan High School, with a focus on eating patterns, body image, knowledge, and physical activity.
Methodology
This study employed an analytical observational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at Panca Budi Medan High School, which is located on Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto KM. 4.5 Medan. The research sample consisted of 65 young women with nutritional status of fat and obesity, which was selected using the total sampling method. Data analysis was carried out using univariate analysis.
Results
The results of this study showed a relationship between fat nutritional status and several factors:
Eating Patterns
As many as 70.8% (17 students) from young women with fat nutritional status have a bad diet. This shows that consumption of unhealthy foods, such as foods high in fat, sugar, and salt, can be a factor that causes obesity. Unhealthy eating patterns can lead to an excessive intake of calories, which can contribute to weight gain and obesity.
Body Image
As many as 72.0% (18 students) young women with fat nutritional status have a negative body image. This shows that negative perception of the body itself can affect eating patterns and physical activity, which in turn has an impact on nutritional status. Negative body image can lead to disordered eating behaviors, such as restrictive eating or binge eating, which can further exacerbate obesity.
Knowledge
As many as 66.7% (6 students) young women with fat nutritional status have less knowledge about balanced nutrition. Lack of knowledge about nutrition and healthy eating patterns can be a risk factor for obesity. Education and awareness about healthy eating and nutrition can help young women make informed choices about their diet and reduce the risk of obesity.
Physical Activity
As many as 80.9% (38 students) of young women with fat nutritional status have mild physical activity. Lack of physical activity can cause a buildup of calories in the body and lead to obesity. Regular physical activity can help young women maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of obesity-related health problems.

The results of this study highlight the importance of education and intervention to increase awareness of young women about healthy lifestyles, including balanced diet, adequate physical activity, and positive body image.
